Examination Procedures
Students must be aware of the following rules for writing examinations at St. Oscar Romero. Failure to comply with these rules can result in expulsion from the exam and possible failure of the course.
It is our students’ responsibility to check the exam schedule for the day and start time of their exams. Students should arrive at the exam room 15 minutes prior to the start of the exam. Instructions will be announced 8 minutes prior to the start of the exam.
The exam room will be opened 15 minutes prior to the start of exams.
- Students can enter the exam room at 8:45 am.
- Exams will start promptly at 9:00 am.
- All writers must remain in the exam room for one hour and may not leave the room before 10:00am.
- Washroom breaks will be supervised after the one-hour mark.
- Students arriving after 10:00 am will not be permitted to write their exam.
Things To Bring for your Exam
(You can use this as a checklist for items to bring.)
- Picture ID: Needed for ALL exams; This is an Alberta Education requirement for all Diploma Exams; If you require support, please see the office to receive a paper copy.
- HB Pencils, Pens, and Erasers: Store these in a clear plastic baggie; Pencil cases are not permitted.
- Calculator: teachers will be clearing your calculator upon entry and exit, and ensuring you left your case in your locker or at home; If you need to borrow one, please come to the office prior to your exam.
- Dictionary and Thesaurus: Will be provided. You do not need to bring your own.
- Comfortable Clothing: Remember that coats are NOT allowed. Wear a sweater if you get cold easily.
- Water and Snacks: Snacks must be in a clear baggie.
Prohibited Items during Exams
(These items are prohibited. Those caught will be expelled from the exam room immediately and have their mark invalidated.)
- Jackets and Hats: Must be left in your locker; no hoods up.
- Backpacks and Purses: Must be left in your locker
- Course Materials: Papers, notes, novels, or textbooks are not permitted.
- Electronics: Cell phones, smart watches, smart devices, headphones, or any other kind of electronic device.
